At Istanbul Airport, one of the world’s leading aviation hubs, tens of thousands of passengers travel between different cultures every day. Since 2022, we have designed special experience areas at this international meeting point that reflect the unifying spirit of Ramadan and the hospitality of Turkey.
In collaboration with Istanbul Airport, we created a “Ramadan Village” for children in the international departures terminal. We transformed the waiting time for young passengers into a moment of play and discovery, while offering families a warm atmosphere that reminds them of the cultural values of this spiritual month.
As Usturlab, we managed all processes of this large-scale project, from the concept stage to the on-site implementation. We developed the concept of the unique experience areas; enriched the existing framework with content; and carried out the implementation. With our team of over 50 expert instructors and performers, we undertook the entire operation of 28 different workshops and various exhibition areas.
The numbers clearly demonstrate the global scale of this gathering: At the end of four years, we have hosted approximately 158,000 active participants from over 70 nationalities in these areas. This project transformed Istanbul Airport from a transit point into a cultural experience space by touching the travel memories of thousands of children and families.
