In 2023, during our TEKNOFEST journey in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, we brought one of TÜBİTAK BİLGEM’s most strategic technology areas to festival visitors. Our goal was to transform a highly complex and closed facility like YİTAL (Semiconductor Technologies Research Laboratory) into a tangible and understandable experiential space for children. To this end, we developed a prototype “Clean Lab” experience simulating the domestic chip manufacturing process.

With our approach of combining knowledge with experience, we designed a scenario based on the real production processes at BİLGEM’s YİTAL facilities. We created a production line experience that included YİTAL’s iconic “Yellow Room” (Photolithography area), where participants entered wearing special overalls like scientists. In this area, children learned the stages of the domestic chip manufacturing process firsthand and even created their own chip designs.

As Usturlab, we managed all project processes, from concept design to production and installation of this experiential space, with a turnkey approach. We flawlessly managed the booth and technical operations throughout three festivals in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir. During this intense marathon, over 5,000 children experienced YİTAL and left the site with their own designed chip models.
