ALHAZEN’S PROBLEM

The problem, which is one of the classical problems of Euclidean geometry and was rephrased by Ibn al-Haytham in the field of optics, is about how to find the point where a light ray is reflected from the source to the observer in a spherical mirror. It is known as the “Alhazen’s Problem” in the West since the 11th century. For the solution of this problem, Ibn al-Haytham put forward the basic principle of the field known as integral calculus. In the historical process, Da Vinci also designed a mechanical device for the solution of this problem. The wooden parts of the assembly are made of oak and the metal parts are made of brass. The model in the image has 40 * 45 cm dimensions. The assembly can be produced to scale with the desired dimensions and materials.
