BENI MUSA’S CLAMSHELL EXCAVATOR

The device described by Banu Musa was used to extract precious metals from water or to lift objects that had fallen into the well. It is considered the ancestor of the excavator used today, especially in the construction industry. It consists of a brass excavator, a metal arm, a steel rope and a pool of water. The assembly can be produced to scale with the desired dimensions and material.
